What’s in a name?!

March 26, 2008

I’m weird! Seriously! I don’t stop playing Solitaire or Minesweeper till I’ve won a game (which in my case doesn’t come easy, as I’m too unlucky for Solitaire and too impatient for Minesweeper!), the volume on my TV or computer always has be multiples of 2, actually, almost everything should be multiples of 2; you’ll never see 7 yoghurts (Orange Crème, yum!) in my shopping cart, I’ll never be caught eating 3 cookies (either I settle in for a meager 2 or stuff myself with 4, usually the latter), and I’d rather talk on the phone for 1 hour 24 minutes than 1 hour 23 minutes! You get the point!

So when I had surfed the net ad nauseam, made the top scores in Solitaire and Minesweeper (the only 2 games my IQ and EQ permit me to play) and stared at my screensaver long enough to see dots and squiggles everywhere (was shocked when upon tearing myself away from the computer screen, I saw my advisor dressed in a white shirt with multi-colored polka dots! I had read that polka dots were in, but wasn’t that last spring?!) , I decided to start a blog! And when it is the latest fad, why should I not jump into the bandwagon?!

Just one problem, the name! I did not want to reveal my name because I’ll write things that will make my parents want to disown me, my friends desert me, and Osama befriend me! On a serious note (which will be a rarity here), in times of personal crises, I would want to be able to wash my dirty linen in public, albeit in disguise.

Even though I do not want to reveal my name, I really wanted to stick to my initials, SV. I just HAD to! Why, you ask? You did read the first paragraph of this post, right? So, I toyed with the idea of having Venom as my last name (sounds uber cool, right?). All I needed was a nice first name starting with the alphabet S. That should be easy. Snake Venom? Nah! Too obvious and..umm..too venomous! Strawberry Venom, too cheesy! Shilpa/Sheetal/Shivani/Surbhi/Scarlett Venom, too insane! S. Venom, too pompous (I’m no H. G. Wells!)! So the Venom idea had to be dropped. What a shame! And with that, the idea of a blog flew out the window!

Then one fine day, I chanced upon something a friend had written for me. She described me as, “A little confused about everything, and yet somehow knows just what she wants.” And that’s when it struck me, I am vaguely specific! But since I’d rather be an ‘SV’ than a ‘VS’, I am Specifically Vague! :)

Hello world! :)

Really nice first post…..But I think the ‘venom’ would have been a cooler option than ‘vague’.. :) . Anyways a good start..just let the words flowing from your quill (not quite literally!) :)
